Micro-Raman characterization of Zn-diffused channel waveguides in Tm(3+):LiNbO(3).
In this work micro-Raman scattering experiments have been performed in LiNbO(3):Tm(3+) samples with waveguides fabricated by Zn(2+) in-diffusion. The results shown that Zn(2+) ions enter the lattice in Li(+) sites, but also in interstitial positions. This produces a compaction of the lattice close to the surface of the sample, generating the waveguide. It is shown that this region is surrounded...
متن کاملConfocal optical techniques to study channel waveguides in LiNbO3
Optical properties of rare-earth ions incorporated into channel waveguides can be used as optical probes to investigate the characteristics of the waveguides by using sub-micrometric resolved confocal fluorescence imaging. In this work, luminescence together with Raman spectroscopy, have been used to evaluate waveguides fabricated by different procedures in LiNbO3 crystals. Introduction LiNbO3 ...
متن کاملElectro-Optic Coefficient Enhancement in Poled LiNbO3 Waveguides
Lithium niobate crystals (LN) show a significant electro-optic (EO) response which contributes to the fabrication of low-voltage operation, high speed integrated optical modulators routinely used in optical telecommunication and integrated optics [1]. A UV laser direct writing method for the fabrication of optical channel waveguides has been proposed and characterized recently [2–4]. Here we re...
متن کاملNonlinear Integrated Optics with Periodically Poled Waveguides in LiNbO3
The advent of the electric field poling method to fabricate periodically poled, ferroelectric, nonlinear optical materials resulted in a renaissance of nonlinear optics. Since then quasi-phase matching has been used for efficient wavelength conversion in devices like frequency doublers, difference frequency generators (DFG) and optical parametric oscillators (OPO). Periodically poled Lithium Ni...
متن کاملTailoring of refractive index profiles in LiNbO3 optical waveguides
Proton-exchange LiNbO3 planar optical waveguides have been irradiated with swift ions (Cl 30 MeV) at very low fluences in the range 5 × 1010 − 5 × 1012 cm−2. Large modifications in the refractive index profiles, and therefore in the optical performance, have been obtained due to the generation of amorphous nano-tracks by the individual ion impacts. Moreover, a fine tuning of the refractive inde...
